An 11-year-old boy died Tuesday after a boating incident at Gunnison Bend Reservoir, the Millard County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Wednesday.
“Millard County EMTs and deputies responded to a watercraft accident at the Gunnison Bend Reservoir,” the MCSO news release says.
“An 11-year-old boy was pulled under the water by a rope that was caught in the motor of the watercraft.
“Lifesaving efforts were initiated immediately and continued while en route to the hospital. The boy was subsequently transported north by medical helicopter for more advanced care.
“Tragically, however, he has succumbed to injuries.”
The release praised “the remarkable efforts made by others in the boy’s group and additional bystanders at the reservoir who quickly went into action, as well as the first responders and other medical personnel,” the release says.
“The matter is being investigated as an unfortunate accident.”
The department said, “Our deepest condolences go out to the family and others affected by this tragedy. As we join in the sorrow, we are honored to be among such a resilient people.”
