During a late-night press conference, Glenwood Police Chief Eric Johansen confirmed that the Glenwood Police Department and Mills County Sheriff’s Office responded to an active shooter call at the residence.

Law enforcement officials quickly secured the area and apprehended a “person of interest” in connection with the case.

“This has been determined to be an isolated incident,” Chief Johansen stated. “There is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation is active, and we are receiving assistance from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Mills County Sheriff’s Office.”

The structure fire, which followed the shooting, is being treated as part of the ongoing investigation.

Chief Johansen praised the rapid response of law enforcement and emergency personnel, many of whom were attending a community event just blocks away when the incident occurred.

“It demonstrated the strength of collaboration among agencies,” Johansen said, noting that assistance came from the Iowa State Patrol and other local partners. “It was a group effort to contain this situation quickly and efficiently.”

Authorities plan to release additional details once investigators have fully processed the scene.

Road closures at Elm Street and North Myrtle Street, near 4th and 5th Streets, are expected to be lifted by Thursday morning.
