A doctor with the McLaren Greater Lansing health system was struck by a vehicle and killed Aug. 4 while jogging along a road northeast of Grand Rapids.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Office confirmed on Aug. 5 the man who died was Peter Luea, 53, of Dimondale.

Luea was a physician at the McLaren Greater Lansing Family Medicine North clinic, McLaren said.

“A compassionate, dedicated physician, Dr. Luea was beloved by his patients and committed his professional life to the noble calling of caring for those in our community,” the health system said in a statement on Aug. 5. “He will be remembered and mourned by the McLaren team and the many lives he served and impacted.”

Police said Luea was jogging along Lincoln Lake Avenue NE, north of 16 Mile Road, in Spencer Township northwest of Greenville shortly after 4 p.m. Monday when he was struck by a pickup truck. Luea died at the scene, they said.

The driver of the pickup stayed at the scene and called 911, they said. The sheriff’s Traffic Safety Unit was investigating the crash.

“Foremost, our deepest and most sincere sympathies are with his family, loved ones, and those who worked closely with him,” McLaren said in its statement.
