The Massachusetts Department of Correction (DOC) is mourning the loss of Sergeant Aaron Gill, who tragically died in a motorcycle accident. His passing leaves a deep void in the law enforcement and corrections community, as well as in the hearts of his family, friends, and colleagues.

Aaron was much more than a sergeant within the DOC, he was a man defined by service, honor, and compassion. His dedication extended far beyond the walls of the correctional facilities where he worked. In the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, Aaron volunteered to travel to New York to help remove rubble, standing shoulder to shoulder with other first responders during one of America’s darkest times.

A proud founding member of the Massachusetts Correction Officers Federated Union (MCOFU) Pipe and Drum Band, Aaron used music to bring people together and to pay tribute to fallen officers. Whether performing at local community functions or honoring the sacrifices of correctional officers at national Correctional Peace Officers Foundation conferences, Aaron’s presence was a symbol of respect, remembrance, and unity. His performances carried not only the sound of tradition, but also the weight of the brotherhood he so proudly represented.

Colleagues describe Aaron as a leader who led with integrity and compassion. He was a steady, reassuring presence in times of crisis, and a friend who could be counted on for both a laugh and a helping hand. His service to the DOC and his commitment to honoring fallen officers leave behind a lasting legacy.
