East Cleveland Tragedy: Erik Sharp, 22, and Charles Roscoe, 82, Killed in Domestic Shooting

The city of East Cleveland is grieving after a tragic domestic-related shooting claimed the lives of two family members and left two police officers injured in a violent overnight ordeal.

East Cleveland Mayor Lateek Shabazz confirmed that the victims have been identified as 22-year-old Erik Sharp and 82-year-old Charles Roscoe. Authorities say the suspect, 24-year-old Aaron L. Sharp, fatally shot his relatives during a domestic altercation late Thursday night before opening fire on responding East Cleveland police officers.

Police say the incident began around 11 p.m. in the 1900 block of North Taylor Road, where Officer Joshua Durda, 37, was shot while responding to the call. Hours later, around 1 a.m. Friday, Officer Hernandez was shot on Euclid Avenue near North Taylor Road during the ongoing search for the suspect.

The manhunt, involving multiple local, state, and federal agencies, ended at about 8:30 a.m. Friday when Aaron L. Sharp was taken into custody in the 1800 block of Sheldon Avenue near Shaw High School. Authorities confirmed prior police encounters with the suspect.

Mayor Shabazz stated both injured officers are in stable condition at University Hospitals, with Officer Hernandez expected to be released Friday afternoon. Officer Hernandez has served with the department since December 2024 and also works part-time for the Geneva-on-the-Lake Police Department. Officer Durda, a full-time officer since March 2023 and former auxiliary officer, will remain hospitalized for a few days due to minor complications.

“This serves as a stark reminder of the dangers our officers confront on a daily basis,” said East Cleveland Police Chief Reginald Holcomb.

The investigation remains ongoing, with assistance from agencies including the Cleveland Division of Police, Euclid Police Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol, U.S. Marshals, ATF, and others.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Erik Sharp and Charles Roscoe during this devastating time.
