The New Season Church community is grieving the tragic loss of three beloved members—Minister Tavaran Ridley, his 8-year-old son Deuce, and his 2-year-old niece Esther—who were killed in a fatal crash on Interstate 65 North while on their way to church. Two other family members remain hospitalized with serious injuries, with one recently discharged, according to church officials.

The church held a special remembrance event Sunday to honor the lives of Tavaran, Deuce, and Esther. The gathering offered children art activities and access to grief counselors, helping attendees process the heavy emotions following the devastating loss.

Alexis Lewis, Executive Director of New Season Church, shared the profound impact the family had on their community. “We were absolutely devastated,” she said, recalling how tears immediately came upon hearing the news. She fondly remembered Esther as once shy but blossoming, and Deuce as full of life—actively involved in children’s church, choir, and even serving as an usher. “He was very good friends with my grandchildren,” Lewis said.

Lewis also described Minister Ridley as “the ram in the bush,” highlighting his steadfast dedication and presence in the church. “For our church family, it’s just been difficult,” she added, “but one of the things we believe is that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” The church children, while missing their friends, hold hope and comfort in the belief that they will see Deuce and Esther again.

Despite the deep void left by this tragedy, church leaders are committed to honoring the family’s memory with love, faith, and a reminder to live each day fully and with care for one another.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the cause of the crash.
