Authorities are investigating a deadly shooting that claimed two lives and left one person injured Tuesday evening in the Trotter’s Ridge neighborhood, between Lillington and Spout Springs.

The Harnett County Sheriff’s Office reports deputies were called to a home on Kentucky Derby Lane around 5:18 p.m. Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while a third was rushed to the hospital. Officials have not yet released the condition or identity of the surviving victim.

Family members have identified the deceased as Bishop Danny Richards and his wife, Sabrina Richards. The shooting occurred on Sabrina’s birthday, just hours after she had celebrated with loved ones. A graduate of Douglas Byrd High School, Sabrina was well known in the community alongside her husband, with the couple married for nearly 30 years. They frequently visited Cumberland County and enjoyed dining in downtown Fayetteville.

Investigators say the suspected shooter is a juvenile relative of the victims. The teen allegedly fled in a gray truck following the shooting but was later located and taken into custody.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not disclosed a possible motive.
