The Twin Cities community is mourning the loss of 21-year-old Fatuma Yussuf Sharif-Isaack, who tragically died in a fatal rollover crash on Tuesday evening.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash occurred just before 6:30 p.m. on westbound Interstate 694 near Highway 10. Investigators said that Sharif-Isaack was driving when her vehicle veered from the right lane, crossed into traffic, and collided with a guardrail on the left shoulder. The force of the impact caused the vehicle to roll over and strike another car before coming to a stop.

Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene, transporting Sharif-Isaack to Hennepin Healthcare. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries. Authorities confirmed that Sharif-Isaack was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, which may have played a role in the severity of her injuries.

Two passengers in Sharif-Isaack’s vehicle, a 21-year-old woman from Brooklyn Park and a 20-year-old woman from Fridley, were also injured. They were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The other vehicle involved in the crash was driven by a 41-year-old woman from Maplewood, who was the sole occupant of her car and fortunately did not sustain any injuries.

The Minnesota State Patrol is continuing its investigation into the exact cause of the crash, including potential factors like speed, weather conditions, or driver distraction.
