The Pomona community is mourning the tragic loss of 57-year-old Ingrid Zapata, who was killed in a devastating accident on the Pomona (60) Freeway.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal incident occurred Monday at approximately 2:26 a.m. on the eastbound Pomona Freeway near the Garey Avenue off-ramp. Zapata was driving a white Lexus sedan when a tire fell off a westbound truck, crossing into the eastbound lanes and striking her vehicle. The impact caused severe damage to the car, including a smashed windshield and partial roof collapse.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but Zapata was pronounced dead at the location. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office officially identified her on Tuesday.
The accident prompted a temporary shutdown of all eastbound lanes at 2:37 a.m., with a SigAlert issued at 3:14 a.m. Most lanes were reopened by 3:58 a.m., except for the slow lane.
Ingrid Zapata will be remembered for her life and the impact she had on her family, friends, and community. Her sudden passing is a profound loss to all who knew her, and thoughts are with her loved ones during this difficult time.
