The family of Allen Adams, a veteran road construction worker, is demanding justice and systemic change following his tragic death in a work zone crash on July 31, 2025.
Adams, described by loved ones as a skilled and dedicated professional, was working the midnight shift in an active construction zone when an allegedly intoxicated driver plowed into the site, killing him instantly. Authorities say the driver was taken into custody at the scene, and charges are pending.
While grappling with the sudden loss, Adams’ family says their heartbreak was compounded by their experience at Community Medical Center in Toms River. “We lost a husband, father, and grandfather, and the hospital treated us like an inconvenience,” the family said in a statement. “It was cold, impersonal, and deeply hurtful.”
In response, the family is calling for:
Harsher penalties for work zone violations, particularly for nighttime crews who face heightened risks.
Hospital protocol reforms to ensure grieving families are treated with empathy and compassion in moments of tragedy.
Increased public awareness about the dangers road workers face daily.
“Allen built safer roads for strangers. He deserved safety, dignity, and humanity — in life and in death,” the family said.
Allen Adams leaves behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, and love for his family. His death has renewed calls for stronger protections for roadside workers in New Jersey and beyond.
