The Pennsylvania State Police have identified 30-year-old Manuel Vazquez Perez as the victim of a fatal crash that occurred early Tuesday morning in Juniata County.
The accident, which took place at approximately 5:10 a.m. along Route 35 near Mowery Street in Milford Township, involved a van that failed to safely navigate a curve in the roadway. According to investigators, the vehicle veered into oncoming traffic, struck two curbs, and then collided with a guardrail. The force of the impact left one passenger dead and another seriously injured.
Perez, who was sitting in the second row of the van at the time of the crash, was not wearing a seatbelt, a factor that authorities believe may have contributed to the severity of his injuries. Despite efforts to save him, Perez was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three other individuals were in the van at the time of the crash. One passenger, who suffered suspected serious injuries, was transported to Geisinger Lewistown Hospital for treatment. The driver and a third passenger were evaluated at the scene but did not require hospitalization.
State police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, including the driver’s potential loss of control, speed, road conditions, and any other factors that may have contributed to the accident.
This tragic incident highlights the critical importance of seat belt use for all vehicle occupants, regardless of their seat position. Authorities continue to stress that wearing a seatbelt significantly increases the chances of surviving a crash.
As the investigation progresses, further details may be released as more information becomes available. The community mourns the loss of a young life, and our thoughts are with Manuel Vazquez Perez’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
