Authorities have identified the two people found dead inside a Southwest Miami-Dade home that was engulfed in flames last week.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office confirmed on Wednesday that the victims were 29-year-old Sebastian Luis Domenech and 58-year-old Aileen Cruz.
The fire broke out Friday around 9 a.m. at a residence in the 10800 block of Southwest 67th Drive in Kendall. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews arrived quickly, extinguished the flames, and made the grim discovery of two bodies inside the home.
Neighbors described seeing thick smoke and the intense efforts of firefighters to gain entry. “I saw the firemen try to open the shutters, they couldn’t, so they started working on the door… They ripped it off the frame to get inside,” one witness recalled.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office arson detectives are investigating the cause of the blaze, while the Medical Examiner’s Office works to determine the cause of death for both victims.
The tragic incident has left the community shaken as friends and neighbors mourn the loss of Domenech and Cruz.
