Authorities have confirmed the identity of the second victim found deceased last month in a Summerville home, with the cause of death still under investigation. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has identified the victim as 46-year-old Amy Michelle Waits of Summerville.
Chattooga County Coroner Jeremy A. McElhaney made the announcement this week, confirming that the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office had positively identified Waits. However, the cause of death for both Waits and the first victim, 53-year-old Michael Kevin Bolton, remains undetermined, as autopsy results are still pending. McElhaney asked the community to keep the families in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
The investigation into the deaths began on July 22, when the bodies were discovered inside a home on Highway 114 (Lyerly Highway) near Chattooga High School. Neighbors had grown concerned after noticing a lack of activity at the residence for several days and seeing buzzards circling overhead. Officers entered the home late that Tuesday, where they made the grim discovery of both bodies, which were in an advanced state of decomposition.
While the identities of the victims have now been confirmed, investigators have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Both bodies were sent to the GBI Crime Lab for examination, and the investigation is ongoing as authorities work to piece together the events leading to this tragic outcome.
As the community grapples with the mystery of these deaths, law enforcement continues to urge anyone with information related to the case to come forward to aid in the investigation. Further updates may be provided as the investigation progresses.
