The man suspected of fatally shooting 49-year-old Terri Stidham outside Wesley Medical Center on Monday was found dead following a tense standoff in west Wichita.
Wichita Police said the suspect, identified as Robert Schoenberger, was located inside an apartment building in the 2300 block of N. Somerset shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday. Officers, along with the Crisis Negotiation Team and SWAT, surrounded the complex and made repeated attempts to persuade Schoenberger to surrender peacefully.
After hours of unsuccessful negotiations, SWAT deployed chemical munitions into the apartment. When those efforts failed, a drone was sent inside, where Schoenberger was found in a bathroom with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at 4:47 p.m.
Police confirmed that Schoenberger and Stidham knew each other and had previously been married. Stidham was shot and killed on August 11, 2025, outside Wesley Medical Center. Her children have since launched a GoFundMe to help cover funeral costs and support her youngest child, who is 15 years old. Donate here.
Schoenberger’s criminal history spans decades, with convictions for arson, theft, burglary, and indecent solicitation of a child. He had been paroled to Sedgwick County in May 2025, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.
“This is a tragedy that this young lady lost her life,” said Wichita Police spokesperson Andrew Ford. “We wanted to bring some form of justice for her and her family.”
Police say the investigation remains active but stress there is no ongoing threat to the public.
