Champaign Police responded to a serious traffic crash at the intersection of Neil Street and Marketview Drive at approximately 9:53 p.m. on August 11, 2025. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian riding a kick scooter in the roadway, leaving the woman with life-threatening injuries.

Officers provided immediate medical aid to the 24-year-old Champaign woman until emergency medical services arrived. She was transported to a local hospital but tragically succumbed to her injuries shortly afterward.

Preliminary investigation shows the pedestrian was traveling eastbound on Marketview Drive and crossed Neil Street against the traffic signal, which was red at the time. She was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated fully with police, who conducted interviews and processed physical evidence over several hours.

Champaign Police continue to seek video footage from nearby homes and businesses to assist in the investigation. Residents or business owners with exterior surveillance cameras who may have captured the crash or relevant activity are encouraged to contact the police department.
