Authorities have identified James Bolender, 67, and Valerie Bolender, 63, as the couple who tragically lost their lives in an Aug. 12 modular home fire in The Hamptons golf community in western Auburndale.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said no signs of foul play or trauma were found, and their injuries were consistent with fire-related causes. Early indications suggest the blaze was accidental, though the official cause will be determined by the State Fire Marshal.

A neighbor called 911 at 1:23 p.m. after spotting the fire, which was initially reported as an explosion. When Polk County Fire Rescue arrived, they found the home engulfed in flames, along with a fully involved golf cart and a partially burning vehicle.

Firefighters worked quickly to contain the blaze while also searching for the residents. The Bolenders were found inside and removed from the home but were pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
