Authorities are actively investigating a murder-suicide that took place in the early morning hours on Thursday in Daphne, leaving an entire family dead and a community in shock.

According to Baldwin County Sheriff Anthony Lowery, deputies received a distressing call at approximately 3:20 a.m. from a residence located on Sable Court, a quiet street in a subdivision just off Milton Jones Road and State Route 181.

When law enforcement officers arrived at the home, they found a horrific scene. Upon entering the residence, deputies discovered four family members had been fatally shot.

Sheriff Lowery identified the alleged shooter as 44-year-old Kenneth O’Neil Smith Jr. The victims were identified as Larrica Gaines Smith, 41, and her children, 15-year-old Khristian Smith and 11-year-old Kinsley Smith.

Authorities confirmed that the family was shot with a handgun, which was recovered at the scene by investigators. The tragic incident has had a ripple effect on the local community, particularly among the children’s schools.

Both Khristian and Kinsley Smith were students at Daphne High School and Daphne East Elementary, respectively. Officials at both schools were notified promptly, and counselors were dispatched to provide support for students, faculty, and staff grappling with the devastating news.
