A tragic domestic incident in Clinton has resulted in a murder charge after a woman shot her husband early Wednesday morning. Clinton Police were dispatched to 404 South Main Street at approximately 6:34 a.m. following a report that a woman had just shot her husband while he was sleeping.
Officers arriving on the scene found the victim, identified as Thomas Couch, deceased from a gunshot wound. The suspect and reporting party, Angelika Couch, was taken into custody without incident and held at the Henry County Jail on a 24-hour hold with no bond.
Angelika Couch now faces charges of first-degree murder and armed criminal action, according to Deputy Chief Capt. John E. Scott.
According to the probable cause statement, Angelika told authorities that her husband had been threatening her throughout the night, claiming he planned to kill her when he woke up. Fearing for her life, she allegedly took a .38 caliber handgun from the nightstand and shot him in the back of the head.
The incident remains under investigation by Clinton Police as authorities work to confirm details surrounding the shooting.
