28-year-old Jermia Offutt Pregnant Woman Killed in Chickasaw Shooting

The family of 28-year-old Jermia Offutt is grieving the loss of both a mother and her unborn child after she was shot and killed Wednesday night in the Chickasaw neighborhood. Offutt was four months pregnant at the time of her death.

Louisville Metro Police Department responded to the 4100 block of West Broadway around 9 p.m., where they found Offutt suffering from a gunshot wound. She was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead.

“They not only killed my daughter, but they killed my grandson,” said Angie Davis, Offutt’s mother. Davis described the devastating impact on Offutt’s three young children, who were present during the shooting and witnessed their mother being shot. “Now, my grandbabies don’t have a mother because of this nonsense that’s going on around here,” she said.

Offutt’s uncle echoed the family’s heartbreak, noting that the children saw the tragic incident firsthand. The family is pleading for justice and answers as they struggle with the loss.

Community activists are also speaking out against the recent surge in violence in west Louisville. Rhonda Mathis said, “I’m angry because a pregnant mother was murdered inside a store. Double homicide—mother and child. Say her name: Jermia Offutt.”

No arrests have been made in the case. Louisville Metro Police Department’s Homicide Unit is investigating. Anyone with information is urged to contact the anonymous Crime Tip Hotline at 502-574-LMPD (5673) or use the anonymous LMPD Crime Tip Portal.
