Heartfelt tributes are pouring in following the tragic death of 32-year-old Hector Javier De Leon Saldana, a devoted Los Angeles Police Department officer, who lost his life in an ATV crash in northeast Bakersfield.
According to the Bakersfield Police Department, the incident occurred on Sunday, August 10, shortly after 8 p.m., in the fields just south of the 11000 block of Highway 178. Responding officers arrived to find fire crews battling flames from an ATV that had crashed, igniting the surrounding dry grass.
Police confirmed that one adult was pronounced dead at the scene. Two others, who were ejected from the ATV, sustained minor-to-moderate injuries and were transported to Kern Medical for treatment.
The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Hector Javier De Leon Saldana of Bell Gardens. The Los Angeles Police Protective League confirmed that Leon-Saldana was a dedicated officer serving in the Wilshire Area. He tragically passed away while camping with loved ones.
Hector leaves behind his partner, Dulce, their 2-year-old son, his parents, and two siblings. Known as the family’s primary provider, his passing has created an immeasurable void both emotionally and financially.
A Blue Ribbon Trust Account has been established to help with funeral expenses and to support his family during this difficult time. The LAPPL expressed, “His loss is felt not only in their hearts but in their daily lives.”
