Suspects Arrested After Indianapolis Man Killed in Targeted Vehicle Attack

A tragic act of violence on the city’s southwest side has left a family grieving and the community in shock. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) confirmed that the male suspect wanted in connection with the killing of Rob Vidito has been taken into custody.

The fatal incident occurred late Thursday morning, August 14, near Denison Street and West Troy Avenue, close to South Lynhurst Drive. Investigators report that Vidito, an Indianapolis resident, was attempting to stop a man and woman from stealing his vehicle. In a heroic effort, he climbed onto the hood of the car to prevent the theft. Rather than fleeing, the suspects allegedly made the deliberate decision to run over Vidito and then exited the vehicle to physically assault him.

When officers arrived around 11:10 a.m., Vidito was found critically injured and was rushed to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The female suspect was apprehended shortly after the incident, while the male suspect initially fled but was captured later by the IMPD Violence Reduction Team following an extensive search.

“This was not just a hit-and-run—it was an intentional and senseless act that took a man’s life,” said an IMPD spokesperson.

Authorities continue to investigate the case and are urging anyone with information to contact Detective Carl Clark at 317-327-3475 or via email at Carl.Clarkii@indy.gov. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.

Rob Vidito will be remembered for his bravery and the tragic circumstances surrounding his death have left an indelible mark on his family, friends, and the Indianapolis community.
