The San Antonio community is mourning the loss of Elizabeth Villalobos, 28, who was fatally shot early Thursday morning at the Encore SoFlo Apartments in downtown San Antonio. Medics pronounced Villalobos dead at the scene.
San Antonio police were called to the 300 block of South Flores Street near East César E. Chávez Boulevard shortly after 4:30 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found Villalobos had sustained a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. A police sergeant at the scene described the shooting as potentially “accidental,” though authorities are still working to confirm that assessment.
Investigators reported that Villalobos and a man, believed to be her romantic partner, were inside the apartment at the time of the shooting. Multiple firearms were discovered on a table in the unit, and at some point, one discharged, striking Villalobos. The man was taken into custody for questioning, and all firearms recovered from the apartment have been sent for ballistic testing to determine which weapon was fired. No arrests have been made.
Detectives and evidence technicians spent several hours processing the apartment for forensic evidence. Police continue to review witness statements, physical evidence, and surveillance footage in an effort to determine the sequence of events and the role of each individual present.
Authorities are urging anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact the San Antonio Police Department or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
The investigation remains ongoing, as officials work to bring clarity to the tragic circumstances that led to the death of Elizabeth Villalobos. Her family, friends, and the community are left grieving the loss of a young life cut short under tragic and uncertain circumstances.
