The Baton Rouge community is mourning the loss of Sergeant Caleb Eisworth, a decorated police officer who died after being struck by a vehicle while riding his motorcycle. The 44-year-old sergeant passed away on Sunday after sustaining severe injuries in the incident, which occurred as he was heading home from his shift.
Sgt. Eisworth served 23 years in law enforcement and was highly regarded for his bravery and dedication. During his career, he received the department’s Medal of Valor along with numerous other awards recognizing his commitment to public safety.
According to authorities, on June 16, a 41-year-old man intentionally collided with Eisworth’s motorcycle on Greenwell Springs Road, causing life-threatening injuries. The suspect was arrested the same day and has since been indicted on multiple charges, including first-degree murder, property destruction, hate crime allegations, and resisting law enforcement.
