The Shenandoah University community is grieving the unexpected passing of Keyshawn Wilder, a former standout football player and current assistant coach, whose energy, leadership, and mentorship left a lasting impact on the university.
Wilder, 22, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, was a junior in the School of Business, pursuing his Bachelor of Business Administration. A graduate of Randallstown High School, he joined Shenandoah University in 2019 and quickly made a name for himself on the football field. As a defensive back, Wilder earned all-conference, all-state, and all-region honors in 2022 and 2023, finishing his collegiate career second in program history for career interceptions.
In 2024, he transitioned to coaching, joining Head Coach Scott Yoder’s staff as the defensive backs coach. Known for his leadership, competitive spirit, and infectious energy, Wilder inspired teammates, players, and fellow students alike, leaving an indelible mark on those around him.
University President Tracy Fitzsimmons shared a heartfelt statement:
“Keyshawn was someone who his teammates, players, and fellow students looked up to. He was truly one of the hearts of Shenandoah’s football program. He brought joy to those around him, not just in classes and on the field, but also through his singing and dancing during team bus rides. Keyshawn’s spirit will certainly be missed.”
Shenandoah University is offering grief counseling and support services for students, staff, and faculty. Cards and condolences for Wilder’s family and girlfriend can be sent via the President’s Office at 1460 University Drive, Winchester, Virginia, 22601.
Keyshawn Wilder’s legacy as both an athlete and mentor will endure at Shenandoah, remembered not only for his achievements on the field but for the warmth, laughter, and encouragement he shared with everyone around him.
