August 15, 2025 — A summer evening at Belmar’s 8th Avenue Beach ended in tragedy Friday when a female swimmer lost her life despite the swift efforts of lifeguards and rescue teams.

According to authorities, the incident began shortly after 7 p.m. when lifeguards and emergency crews pulled a young boy safely from the surf. Moments later, responders were alerted that a female swimmer had not resurfaced. Witnesses said she had been swimming with two friends, both of whom managed to reach safety.

A large-scale, multi-agency response was immediately launched, involving Belmar lifeguards, local police and firefighters, and the U.S. Coast Guard. Rescue efforts included boats, surfboards, drones, and a Coast Guard helicopter, all deployed in a desperate attempt to locate the missing swimmer.
