Beebe Police are investigating a tragic shooting that left an elderly woman dead on Saturday evening.
At approximately 5:50 p.m. on August 16, 2025, officers were dispatched to a residence on Kamak Drive following reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found 82-year-old Martha Lassiter-Barber of Beebe suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the head. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by the White County Coroner’s Office.
Investigators quickly identified the suspect as the victim’s son, 51-year-old Christopher Michael Barber, also of Beebe. He was taken into custody and transported to the White County Detention Center, where he has been charged with Capital Murder. Authorities confirmed that Barber will be held without bond until his first court appearance.
Police say the case remains under active investigation. Officials and community members are asking for compassion and respect toward the grieving family, reminding the public to keep Mrs. Barber’s loved ones in their thoughts and prayers during this devastating time.
All individuals charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
