Officer J W Bode Obituary, Death;- Integris Health officials have identified the individual who lost their life in a tragic shooting incident on Sunday night at an Enid hospital as a 72-year-old security guard. Public Safety Officer J.W. Bode was fatally shot after an armed assailant entered the hospital located on Owen K. Garriott Road near Van Buren Street at approximately 11 p.m. on Sunday.

According to officials from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, the event began as a domestic disturbance call, and the suspect’s vehicle was located shortly thereafter at Integris Health Center.

Upon the arrival of law enforcement, OSBI officials reported that the suspect began firing at the police, even hitting one of their vehicles. The assailant then proceeded inside the hospital and opened fire. Police entered the hospital and discovered Bode deceased at the scene. They subsequently located and fatally shot the suspect.

Integris Health officials characterized Bode as a proud father of three and a devoted grandfather. He was a retired probation and parole officer who had committed his life to service and safety, as stated by the hospital group. “It is with great sadness that we inform you that one of the individuals who lost their life in the overnight shooting incident at our Enid hospital was one of our own.

Public Safety Officer J.W. Bode was killed while bravely confronting the suspect. He died in the act of protecting others,” stated Integris Health officials in a press release. “Our heartfelt condolences extend to his family. We are immensely grateful to the local and state law enforcement agencies for their prompt and courageous actions in securing the hospital and safeguarding our patients, caregivers, and community.

We are particularly appreciative of the swift and selfless actions of Officer J.W. Bode, who heroically placed himself in danger to protect others. His service and sacrifice will always be remembered. Counseling and chaplain services are available for our caregivers and physicians who may require support.”

Authorities have yet to disclose the identity of the suspect.
