Sy Van Nguyen Obituary, Death;- Days after a 94-year-old man from Santa Rosa was discovered deceased “without any indications of trauma or foul play,” new evidence has indicated that it was an “intentional killing,” according to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday. The man’s son-in-law has been taken into custody on suspicion of murder.
The deceased man, identified by officials as Sy Van Nguyen, was reported unresponsive on August 11 by his son-in-law, Khanh Trong Tran, 71, also from Santa Rosa. Emergency responders were sent to a residence located on the 5800 block of River Road, where they declared Nguyen dead.
“At that moment, there were no indications of trauma or foul play, and his remains were released to the family,” stated the sheriff’s office.
On Friday, law enforcement officials announced that deputies had obtained evidence suggesting that Nguyen’s death was not due to natural causes. An arrest warrant was subsequently issued for Tran.
Tran was apprehended on Saturday while inside a vehicle on the 1700 block of Marlow Road and has been charged with murder. He is currently being held in custody without the possibility of bail.
