Darion Davis Obituary, Death; – On Monday, August 18, an Atkinson County judge adjudicated all three teenage defendants guilty of aggravated assault in connection with the death of 16-year-old Darion Davis, a resident of Pearson.
The proceedings for the three teenagers commenced on Monday, August 18, culminating in their judgment and sentencing at the conclusion of the hearing.
The office of the state prosecutor confirmed that all three teenagers have been sentenced to the maximum felony term of 60 months in the Department of Juvenile Justice.
Darion Davis, the victim, was admitted to Coffee Regional Medical Center on October 17, 2024, for what his mother, Kimberly Davis, was informed was an asthma attack. He was subsequently transferred to the ICU in Savannah, where he passed away on October 22, 2024.
The evening prior to his death, his mother received a video, dated October 12, 2024, which purportedly depicted her son being assaulted.
As reported by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), the video indicated that “during the altercation, the 15-year-old seized a pipe and struck Davis multiple times.”
At that time, five individuals, comprising three juveniles and two adults, were apprehended. The charges included 21-year-old Tashunika Jones, 17-year-old Verntron White, two 16-year-olds, and a 15-year-old, who faced the following charges:
– Felony Murder
– Aggravated Assault
– Aggravated Battery
In April 2025, the state prosecutor’s office announced that all five defendants are now only confronting charges of aggravated assault and influencing a witness. Davis’ mother has urged the prosecutor’s office to reconsider the decision to drop any murder charges.
The medical examiner concluded that the altercation captured on video was not the cause of death, prompting officials to lessen the initial charges.
Davis’ mother expressed her acceptance of the fact that the teenagers are not facing charges beyond aggravated assault.
She stated, “Due to my faith, I trust God. I ask God to seek vengeance for my child. Even if it’s not murder, He is still seeking vengeance for my child, so I am at peace.”
The two adults involved in the case are still awaiting trial.
