Jeremy Wingfield Obituary, Death;- The Daviess County Coroner’s Office has identified the pedestrian who was killed in a collision on US Highway 431 as Jeremy Wingfield, aged 41, residing in the 8800 block of US Highway 431.
As per a release from the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, Wingfield was struck shortly after midnight on Monday by a 2016 Buick SUV while he was walking southbound in the southbound lane of the highway.
The incident took place late Monday night, just hours after Wingfield had been involved in a single-vehicle accident in the 7700 block of US Highway 431 around 8:30 p.m. In that earlier incident, Wingfield’s 2012 Chrysler Minivan lost control and collided with a guardrail, rendering the vehicle disabled and obstructing the northbound lane.
According to the release, witnesses reported that Wingfield fled the scene on foot prior to the arrival of deputies from the DCSO. A search of the vicinity was carried out, but authorities were unable to find him.
The release further stated that deputies later visited his residence and discovered that Wingfield had not yet returned home. Investigators suspect that Wingfield was hiding in a nearby field while emergency crews were clearing the roadway following the earlier accident.
It is believed that Wingfield was walking approximately one mile from the site of the accident to his home at the time of the fatal collision.
