Juvenile Fatally Shot at Apartment Party in Indianapolis

A 17-year-old boy, Xavion Whitlow, was shot and killed early Monday morning at The Grounds Apartments, located in the 2100 block of Central Avenue, Indianapolis. Authorities say the incident may have occurred during a party at a short-term rental within the complex.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) reported that officers first responded to a shots-fired call at 2:43 a.m., but found no evidence of a shooting and no one signaling for help. A short time later, police received a second call reporting a person shot on the fourth floor of the apartment building. Medics entered the apartment and found Whitlow deceased. Evidence inside the unit led officials to believe a party had been taking place.

Family members said Whitlow was attending a birthday party for a 19-year-old woman when someone with a personal conflict arrived and shot him. Witnesses provided police with the suspect’s nickname. One resident on the floor above reported hearing four gunshots, followed shortly by a woman screaming.

Multiple neighbors told investigators that police have previously been called to the complex over parties at short-term rentals. Authorities are working with apartment management to review surveillance footage to identify those involved.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact IMPD.
