Nathan Heiberg,Lucas Heiberg Obituary, Death; – A man and a woman were fatally shot early Saturday in Moorhead, an incident that authorities suspect may have been a murder-suicide.
As reported by the police, officers responded to a call at an apartment building located in the 1100 block of 2nd Avenue S., where they discovered the bodies of Nancy Acosta, aged 53, and Camilo Acosta, aged 21. A firearm was also located at the scene.
According to police reports, a juvenile and an adult were present during the shooting but fortunately did not sustain any injuries.
This tragic event occurred just days after two individuals were killed in Moorhead by Fargo police officers from the Red River Valley SWAT team, following a domestic violence incident reported at an apartment in the 2400 block of 3rd Avenue N.
The deceased men were identified on Friday by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office as Nathan Heiberg, 42, from Moorhead, and Lucas Heiberg, 41, from Grand Forks, North Dakota.
The officers involved in the use-of-force incident were identified as Sgt. Michael Anderson, Sgt. Kyle Seehusen, and Officer Tyler Seehusen, according to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. All three officers have been placed on critical incident leave by the Fargo Police Department.
The initial investigation by the BCA revealed that Moorhead officers were dispatched on Monday evening due to a violation of an order for protection at the apartment, where a woman reported being assaulted by Nathan and Lucas Heiberg.
When officers attempted to force entry into the apartment after receiving no response from the men, they retreated upon hearing a gunshot from within. The SWAT team subsequently arrived, entered the apartment, and fatally shot both men. Fortunately, two small children present in the apartment were unharmed, and police recovered two firearms.
