15-Year-Old Charged in Fatal Killing of Brother, Body Left Near Dania Beach Canal

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of his brother, whose body was discovered in a canal near Dania Beach, authorities said.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) responded shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday to a 911 call reporting a body floating in a canal near Ocean Waterway Boulevard and Old Griffin Road. The victim was identified as 23-year-old Kevin Dominique, who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Investigators quickly identified a suspect: Dominique’s 15-year-old brother, Demetre Fleurimond. BSO officials said Fleurimond admitted to the shooting late Tuesday night. Authorities said he shot his older brother inside the family home on Southwest Sixth Avenue, then drove the body to the canal, abandoned the car at a nearby library, and attempted to clean up the crime scene.

The teen was taken into custody and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center. The motive behind the killing remains unclear. Fleurimond is expected to appear in court Thursday.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the tragic incident, which has shocked the local community.
