A tragic motorcycle accident claimed the life of 40-year-old Daniel M. Gafford of Fort Deposit on Tuesday morning. According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the crash occurred around 11:40 a.m. on Lowndes County 79, approximately four miles east of Fort Deposit.

Authorities report that Gafford was riding his motorcycle when it collided with a tractor-trailer, causing him to be ejected from the bike. Emergency responders arrived promptly, but he was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of his injuries.

Troopers from ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division are investigating the incident, examining factors such as road conditions, vehicle speeds, and the actions of both Gafford and the tractor-trailer driver.
