Authorities are investigating a deadly stabbing that left 38-year-old Dawnette M. Sigmon dead and her two teenage children injured on Thursday night. Police responded around 9:47 p.m. to a residence in the 1900 block of East Main Street after receiving reports of an injured person.

Upon arrival, officers found Sigmon and her 14- and 16-year-old children suffering from stab wounds. All three were transported to Decatur Memorial Hospital. Tragically, Sigmon died shortly after arrival, while her children were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and later released.

Decatur Police have launched a full investigation, collecting evidence at the scene, canvassing the area, and reviewing neighborhood surveillance footage. Officials have not released information regarding a suspect, motive, or whether the victims knew the attacker.
