A fatal shooting in Graham on Wednesday night claimed the life of 34-year-old Thomas Jeffries Jr., authorities report. Officers were dispatched to a residence on the 400 block of Poplar Street following reports of gunfire.
Upon arrival, officers found Jeffries suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite emergency efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators quickly identified 59-year-old James Thomas Daye, a resident of the same home, as the suspect. Daye was taken into custody at the scene without incident and has been charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Police stated that the shooting stemmed from a family dispute and emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the broader community. Authorities are continuing their investigation and encourage anyone with information to contact the Graham Police Department at (336) 570-6711.
