Heartbreak has struck on the city’s West Side after a tragic shooting claimed the life of 27-year-old Tia Janaee on Thursday night.

Authorities responded to reports of gunfire around 10:13 p.m. in the 3900 block of West Gladys Avenue, where two individuals had been shot. According to emergency radio traffic, officers on scene applied a chest seal to one victim and called for additional ambulances after discovering another person critically injured in the backyard.

Police confirmed that a 27-year-old woman was shot in the face and later pronounced dead. Family members identified her as Tia Janaee, a young mother of nine children. A 26-year-old man was also shot multiple times in the abdomen and leg and was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Community members are mourning the devastating loss, offering prayers for both victims and extending condolences to Tia’s children, who now face life without their mother.

The Chicago Police Department has not released further details on suspects or possible motives. The shooting remains under active investigation.
