Fatal Motorcycle Crash Near New York State Fairgrounds

Authorities have identified the young man who died in a motorcycle crash Thursday evening near the New York State Fairgrounds as 21-year-old Ryan Hines of Baldwinsville. The accident shut down part of Interstate 690 eastbound for several hours as investigators worked the scene.

State Police reported that the crash occurred around 5:57 p.m. Hines was riding a Suzuki motorcycle eastbound on I-690 when a Ford F-250, driven by 36-year-old Christopher Riese of Syracuse, changed lanes into the passing lane. The motorcycle collided with the rear of the truck shortly after the lane change. Hines suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Riese was unharmed, and sobriety tests indicated no impairment.

Preliminary findings suggest that speeding may have contributed to the crash, though the investigation remains ongoing. No citations have been issued at this time.

The collision prompted a temporary closure of I-690 near the fairgrounds, causing delays for evening traffic. Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact State Police at 315-366-6000 to assist with the investigation.

Hines’ family and community are mourning the loss of the 21-year-old, whose life was tragically cut short. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers motorcyclists face, especially on busy highways.
