Community Mourns the Loss of Richard P. “Rich” Brooks, Jr.

The community of Quincy and Braintree is mourning the unexpected passing of Richard P. Brooks, Jr., affectionately known as Rich, who died on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at the age of 52. His life was one defined by dedication, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to family, service, and community.

Born in Boston to the late Dorothy J. (LoCascio) and Richard P. Brooks, Rich was raised in Quincy, where he developed the values of duty, integrity, and hard work that would guide him throughout his life. A proud graduate of North Quincy High School, Class of 1991, he went on to serve his country honorably as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps, a commitment that left a lasting mark on his character and those around him.

After completing his military service, Rich pursued further education through trade school and college coursework, eventually building a respected career with the City of Quincy as a skilled mason in the Cemetery Department at Pine Hill Cemetery. Known for his craftsmanship and reliability, his work has left a permanent imprint on the community he loved so dearly.

Rich was also deeply involved in giving back to others. For more than two decades, he was a devoted youth sports coach in Braintree, pouring his heart into mentoring young athletes. Whether on the hockey rink or the playing field, he instilled values of teamwork, discipline, and character. He also served as a hockey referee, further showcasing his passion for the sport and its ability to bring people together.

Outside of his professional and volunteer work, Rich found peace and happiness in the outdoors. Whether fishing, playing golf, or spending quiet moments with animals he adored, he embraced the beauty of life’s simple joys.

Above all, Rich’s greatest devotion was to his family. He was the beloved husband of Meredith (Rossi) Brooks, with whom he shared 27 years of love and partnership. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and mutual support. He was a proud and loving father to Noah R. Brooks, Katie M. Brooks, and Ryan P. Brooks, always celebrating their achievements and guiding them with strength and kindness.

He is also survived by his sister, Kellianne Brooks-Connors of Quincy, and his brother Brad P. Brooks and his wife Jessica of Cohasset, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends who will forever cherish his warmth, humor, and generosity.

Rich’s life will be honored and celebrated as he is laid to rest at Pine Hill Cemetery, where his legacy as a devoted husband, father, brother, mentor, and friend will live on in the countless lives he touched.

His passing is a reminder to live fully, give generously, and hold loved ones close — values that Rich embodied every day of his life.
