Prosecutors have upgraded charges following a fatal downtown Crossville shooting after the victim’s death was confirmed.
District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway announced Saturday that 42-year-old Eric Brandon Garrison, of Crossville, is now charged with second-degree murder. The charge was elevated after the victim, 62-year-old Albert Darrell Sturgill Jr., died at a hospital on Saturday afternoon. Garrison had initially faced an attempted second-degree murder charge.
The shooting happened around 5:45 p.m. Friday, August 22, near North Main Street and Fourth Street, directly across from the Cumberland County Courthouse. Investigators said the confrontation began in the roadway and quickly escalated into gunfire.
Authorities confirmed that numerous bystanders witnessed the shooting, and several captured cellphone video that has since been added to the official case evidence.
Garrison remains in custody at the Cumberland County Jail on a $1 million bond as the Crossville Police Department and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation continue their investigation.
