The Officers and Brethren of St. Augustine Lodge are very grieved by the news of the demise of the Most Worshipful Brother Rev. W. Martin Smyth, the former Worshipful Grand Master of Ireland.
In our Institution, Brother Smyth was a rock of courage, faith, and leadership, especially during one of the most trying times in our common past. In his capacity as Grand Master during the height of the Troubles, he upheld the principles and ideals of Freemasonry with dignity and conviction while offering calm, brave, and ethical counsel.
During extremely difficult circumstances, his steady hand and moral clarity helped to maintain unity and cultivate hope, leaving a lasting impression on our Order and society at large. The qualities of leadership, brotherhood, and service were all demonstrated by Brother Smyth. His efforts will be honored and gratefully remembered for his persistent devotion to Freemasonry and his beliefs.
We send his family circle our deepest sympathies. May they take solace in the knowledge that he was well-liked and that everyone who had the honor of serving and knowing him will miss him terribly.
His legacy lives on in the hearts and thoughts of his brothers and sisters, who are now at rest in the Everlasting Arms.
“Excellent work, obedient servant.”
