The art and cycling communities of New Jersey are mourning the sudden passing of Reed Chojnacki, a self-taught artist, entrepreneur, and gallery owner whose creativity and energy left an indelible mark on those who knew him. He passed away at the young age of 29, leaving behind a legacy of hustle, artistry, and community spirit.
Born in 1996, Reed was widely regarded as a rising star in the art world. Based in Matawan and Highland Park, he was the proud owner of PXTS Art Gallery in Matawan, where his innovative works and curatorial vision drew admiration from peers and collectors alike. His artistry was raw, fearless, and expressive — a reflection of the unique perspective he brought to life.
But Reed’s creative drive was not limited to the canvas. His passion for bicycles was just as defining. From a young age, he was immersed in the local cycling culture, working at bike shops in Shrewsbury, Middletown, Red Bank, and surrounding towns since the age of 13. Over the years, he transformed that passion into reality by becoming a multiple bike shop owner, known for his tireless energy, love for community, and ability to turn his dreams into thriving ventures.
Friends and colleagues describe Reed as a true hustler in the best sense of the word — someone who lived life with urgency, determination, and authenticity. He had the rare ability to inspire those around him, blending his entrepreneurial spirit with an artist’s heart.
“He lived fast, died young, and left everyone’s head spinning,” one mourner said, reflecting on the whirlwind life Reed led and the powerful impact he left behind.
Though his journey was brief, Reed’s legacy as both an artist and entrepreneur will continue to inspire. He will be remembered not only for his talents and achievements but also for his relentless drive, creative spark, and the community he helped foster through his shops and gallery.
Funeral and memorial arrangements have not yet been announced.
