TEXARKANA, AR — Authorities have announced an arrest in connection with the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Gary Nichols at the Ridge Apartments, 701 N. Oats Street, Texarkana, Arkansas. The incident occurred late on August 24, 2025, shortly after 11:00 p.m., when the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department received multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting.

Officers responded quickly and found Nichols outside the apartment complex with a gunshot wound. Several bystanders were already attempting to render aid. Police officers secured the scene and provided emergency assistance until LifeNet EMS arrived. Tragically, Nichols succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives and the Crime Scene Unit launched an immediate investigation, which led them to 21-year-old Xavian Banks, identified as the suspected shooter. Banks was arrested the same night and charged with Second-Degree Murder. He is currently being held at the Miller County Jail.
