Ethan Amberger Obituary, Death; – Scott County Coroner, Cody Caudle, has confirmed the identity of the individual who lost his life on Monday morning due to an accident involving quarry machinery at Colt Rock & Lime in Scott City as 26-year-old Ethan Amberger from Perryville.
Scott City Police Chief Chris Griggs reported that emergency services were called to the quarry on Rock Levee Road at approximately 7:21 a.m. for what was initially described as an industrial rescue. Upon their arrival, responders discovered Amberger potentially trapped in a secluded section of the mining site. The operation was subsequently changed from a rescue to a recovery mission.
The recovery operation included several agencies, such as the Scott City Fire Department, Scott City Police Department, North Scott County Ambulance District, Scott County Sheriff’s Office, the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), and the Scott County Coroner’s Office. Amberger was retrieved around 12:48 p.m. and handed over to the coroner’s office.
Chief Griggs stated that officers and firefighters collaborated with Cape Girardeau Fire crews, who provided heavy machinery to aid in the operation. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by MSHA and the coroner’s office.
Scott City Fire officials expressed gratitude to all the agencies that assisted, as well as a local business that supplied food for the responders. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and urge everyone to keep them in their thoughts during this challenging time,” the department conveyed in a statement.
