Nikolas ‘Nikola’ Tomasevic Missing; San Francisco Police Continue Search for Missing Swimmer at Aquatic Park Cove

San Francisco, CA – Authorities are actively searching for 35-year-old Nikolas Tomasevic, who went missing while swimming at Aquatic Park Cove on Saturday, sending shockwaves through his family, friends, and the local swimming community.

Tomasevic was last seen around 10:15 a.m., wearing an orange swimming cap and swimming trunks. He is described as a white male, 6 feet 5 inches tall, weighing approximately 220 pounds, with blonde hair and brown eyes. Police are urging anyone who may have seen him or has information regarding his whereabouts to contact them immediately.

Emergency crews launched search operations shortly after Tomasevic was reported missing, focusing on the protected waters of the cove and the shoreline. However, rescue efforts were temporarily suspended due to poor underwater visibility, highlighting the challenges of open-water searches even in relatively contained areas, according to Lieutenant Mariano Elias Jr.

Aquatic Park, located at the end of Van Ness Avenue, is a popular training spot for open-water swimmers, with the Golden Gate Triathlon Club estimating the cove’s perimeter at roughly one mile. Tomasevic, an experienced athlete, was well-known within the local swimming community, and his disappearance has left friends and fellow club members deeply concerned.

On Sunday, the San Francisco Police Department’s Marine Unit resumed a systematic search of the cove and surrounding piers. The operation involves divers and remotely operated vehicles equipped with sonar and cameras to reach areas otherwise inaccessible to human rescuers.

Members of the Dolphin Swimming and Boating Club, where Tomasevic was a member, have been visibly affected by his disappearance. Flags at the club were lowered to half-staff, and club members spent the day paddling in kayaks, searching the waters for any sign of their friend.

“This is a tight community,” said club member Ken Coren. “Nikolas was part of it, as are his friends. It’s a sad day here. He was a sweet man and a talented athlete.”

Authorities continue to stress the importance of safety in open-water swimming and are urging vigilance even in familiar and seemingly safe areas. Anyone with information is asked to contact the SFPD at 415-575-4444 or text TIP411, beginning the message with “SFPD.”

As search operations continue, family, friends, and the local swimming community remain hopeful for Nikolas Tomasevic’s safe return while grappling with the uncertainty of his disappearance.
