BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Two individuals have been arrested following a fatal hit-and-run over the weekend that claimed the life of 38-year-old Mario S. Harris of Bowling Green.
The Bowling Green Police Department responded to Brandywood Court around 2:42 a.m. Sunday after receiving a report of a man injured in a possible vehicle-related incident. Officers found Harris with injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities say 58-year-old Fred Hart, also of Bowling Green, was walking toward the scene and admitted involvement in the incident. Police noted Hart appeared intoxicated and smelled strongly of alcohol. According to the citation, Hart and 34-year-old Savannah Caldwell, who was also present, had left the residence to get more drinks before returning.
The altercation reportedly escalated when Harris stood between Hart’s vehicle and a parked car. Hart stated that while trying to reverse, Caldwell allegedly pushed the gearshift into drive, causing the vehicle to strike Harris. Caldwell then drove away from the scene.
Both Hart and Caldwell were arrested in connection with the incident. Caldwell faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render aid and is being held at the Warren County Regional Jail. Hart has been charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, first-degree criminal mischief, and leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render aid with death or serious injury.
The Bowling Green Police Department continues to investigate the incident and has indicated that additional charges are possible.
