Two Customers Involved in Shooting at Irving Muffler Shop; One Hospitalized, One Arrested

LIRVING, Texas (August 26, 2025) — A violent confrontation at a local muffler shop Tuesday afternoon ended in gunfire, leaving one suspect injured and another in custody, according to the Irving Police Department.

Officers responded around 2:20 p.m. to reports of a shooting at a business on E. Irving Blvd. Preliminary investigations revealed that two customers, Elijah Jacobs and Cayto Rivers, both 21, entered a restricted area of the shop and became confrontational when the owners attempted to intervene.

Police say the dispute escalated quickly when the suspects allegedly grew aggressive and brandished firearms. The shop owners physically restrained the pair in an effort to prevent them from opening fire. During the struggle, the suspects threatened to shoot, and as they attempted to flee in a vehicle, one of the victims was briefly dragged. A gun discharged during the chaos, striking Rivers.

The suspects fled the scene, but officers quickly tracked their vehicle near Strickland Plaza and W. Irving Blvd. Police provided medical aid to Rivers until paramedics arrived and transported him to a local hospital. Jacobs was taken into custody and booked into jail. Authorities confirmed that Rivers will face charges once he is medically cleared.

The investigation remains active as police review surveillance footage and witness statements.
