BRISTOL, Conn. — The Bristol community is mourning the loss of Jayson Bruno-Matos, 36, a beloved barbershop owner whose life was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting early Saturday morning.

Police said Bruno-Matos was found with gunshot wounds in the 100 block of Arch Street around 2 a.m. after multiple 911 callers reported hearing gunfire. He was later pronounced dead.

Bruno-Matos, the owner and operator of Creative Cutz Barbers Lounge in Bristol, was remembered as a passionate entrepreneur and family man who poured his heart into his work and his community. Loved ones describe him as someone who made others feel seen, valued, and uplifted.

In the wake of his sudden passing, one of his siblings launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral expenses, legal costs, and support for his daughters. The fundraiser has already collected more than $6,000 toward its $18,000 goal, as friends, neighbors, and customers rally to honor his legacy.

“We are trying to honor my brother’s legacy. With these donations, we can lay him to rest and support his family. He was taken away from us in the worst way possible, leaving behind his daughters, mother, brothers, nieces, and nephews,” the family shared on the campaign page.

The outpouring of love has been evident both online and in person, with many community members expressing gratitude for the impact Bruno-Matos had on their lives.
