Gunfire Detection System Leads Police to Trenton Homicide Victim

TRENTON, N.J. — Authorities say a 19-year-old man was shot and killed early Friday morning in South Trenton after the city’s gunfire-detection system alerted police to the scene.

The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office identified the victim as Tommy Febles, a Trenton resident. Officers responded around 12:39 a.m. to the 200 block of Centre Street, where they discovered Febles with a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No arrests have been made in connection with the killing. The Mercer County Homicide Task Force is leading the investigation.

Officials confirmed that the city’s gunfire-detection system played a key role in alerting officers quickly to the shooting location, allowing them to respond within minutes.

Homicide Sgt. Will Jett and Detective Zach Ortman are handling the case. Anyone with information is asked to contact them at 609-331-5010 or 609-273-2451.
