Jaylin Micou Identified as Victim in Deadly South Bend Bar Shooting

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Authorities have confirmed the death of 37-year-old Jaylin Micou, a South Bend man who was fatally wounded in a shooting outside a local bar earlier this month. The incident, which occurred on August 10 around 3 a.m. on Portage Avenue near My Place Bar & Grill, has now been classified as a homicide.

According to the South Bend Police Department, an officer patrolling the area reported hearing gunfire near the bar. Responding officers quickly located Micou, who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment but, despite efforts from medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries on August 23, 2025.

During the investigation, detectives identified 21-year-old Keithus Giden III as the suspect. Giden has since been charged with murder and is being held at the St. Joseph County Jail without bond. Police emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing as they continue gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.

Officials underscored the tragedy of the shooting, noting the risks gun violence poses in public spaces and its devastating toll on families. The department is urging anyone with additional information to come forward as they work to secure justice for Micou and his loved ones.
